Discover the buzz of life with the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust

2010 is the United Nations International Year of Biodiversity and within this special year, Saturday 22 May is International Biodiversity Day: the day when the world celebrates the diversity of life.

2010 International Year of BiodiversityThe Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust has organised a host of guided walks, open days and children’s activities to help people experience the biodiversity of Lincolnshire.

Rachel Shaw, PR Officer for the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust, said: "Biodiversity is just a shortened version of two words: biological diversity, but it describes the astonishing richness and variety of wildlife and habitats on Earth including here in Lincolnshire. It’s every plant, animal, fungus and micro-organism, the habitats in which they live. It is the web of life of which we are an integral part and upon which we depend.

"Though habitats have been fragmented and species lost, Lincolnshire is still home to many special and unique species. Our events provide an opportunity for people of all ages to encounter biodiversity whether it’s hearing the haunting call of the rare and secretive bittern or taking the children pond dipping and coming face-to-face with water scorpions or diving beetles."
