Green Awards deadline draws near

Individuals, groups and businesses from around the county have already entered the Lincolnshire Environmental Awards but it is not too late to get your entry in.  The deadline is 30 April 2011.

The Lincolnshire Environmental Awards, including the Lincolnshire Young Environmentalist Awards, are open to everyone and the organisers are encouraging groups, schools and businesses to get their entries in before the deadline on 30 April 2011. If you’ve not quite decided whether to enter or not, it is worth it and is very easy, all you need to do is write 200 – 300 words about your project and send it in. Or if you know of community group, business or school who are doing good things for the environment please encourage them to enter.  Chairman of the Award scheme and Lindum Rotary Club member, Roger Pavey said: "In the face of global environmental problems such as climate change and the loss of biodiversity it is all too easy to think that there is nothing we can do as individuals, small businesses or community groups. But the actions of people in Lincolnshire do make a difference. The awards recognise the actions that people are taking – however large or small, and hopefully inspires others." The Lincolnshire Environmental Awards, the only dedicated environmental awards programme in the county, are organised by Lindum Rotary Club and the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust.

2. Lindum Rotary Club established the environment award in 1993. The club is one of four in the Lincoln area. It has 37 members drawn from businesses and professions from the Lincoln area. The club works to give service to the community both locally and internationally through the wider Rotary movement. Lindum Rotary Club also organises the Lincolnshire Youth Speaks competition and is involved in fundraising for various charities. Rotary celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2005, it was founded by Paul Harris in Chicago in 1905.
