About the event
Barton Area Group's regular field trips are open to everyone - you don't need to be a member. This time they're heading to the RSPB nature reserve of Blacktoft Sands on the south bank of the River Ouse in East Yorkshire, a "watery wonderland" with the largest tidal reedbed in England. The site is home to marsh harriers, bitterns and bearded tits, its lagoons host large numbers of breeding and wintering waterfowl, and scrubland and hidden mudflats provide the perfect habitat for a range of other species. There are several hides.
This trip will focus on the marsh harrier roost so is timed accordingly. Meet at the car park at Ness End, Far Ings National Nature Reserve, for 1pm to go together - car sharing is available. This is a half-day activity and is expected to finish around dusk.
Please be aware that there is an entry charge for Blacktoft Sands; RSPB members free.
To get to Ness End Farm from Barton-upon-Humber, travel west along Far Ings Road, go past the brown signs for Far Ings Visitor Centre and past the turning for the hotel. The road narrows and after 300 yards Ness End Farm car park is on your right (please note that the postcode for satnav is DN18 5RG, but this will also take you to the main Visitor Centre car park).
