What is a Wilder Welcome Volunteer?
Our team of Wilder Welcome Volunteers have a key role in helping visitors to engage with the wonderful wildlife of Far Ings. They are ambassadors for appropriate site use and provide information at the entrance to the reserve (at Ness End Farm). They may also spend time out on the nature reserve noting important wildlife sightings and talking with the general public.
What’s involved?
- Being a presence at Ness End Farm to welcome visitors to Far Ings NNR
- Representing the Trust in an appropriate manner when on site and inspiring others to support us by referring any visitors to further information
- Providing information to give visitors a deeper appreciation of Far Ings’ wonderful wildlife
- Reporting any damage, incidents and activities to staff via regular reporting arrangements
- Always acting in accordance with the risk assessment for the task provided
- Adherence to the Volunteer Charter, policies, procedures and guidelines
- Undertaking in-house training appropriate to the role
Who would this role suit?
Essential skills/experience:
- An infectious passion for nature and the natural world
- A strong desire to inspire other about wildlife
- An understanding of the needs of the public and native wildlife
- Familiarity with Far Ings NNR and its wildlife
- Sensible regard for health and safety
- Understanding and support of the Wildlife Trust's principles of reserve management
- Ability to communicate effectively with the public
- The ability to work within guidelines set by the Education team
Desirable skills/experience:
- An affinity with and commitment to the aims of the Wildlife Trust
- Wildlife identification skills
