What is an Education & Events Volunteer?
Our team of Education & Events Volunteers support staff with the delivery, planning and preparation of a range of environmental activities to inspire people, families and school groups about the wonderful wildlife around us.
What’s involved?
- Being involved in the planning of a calendar of family/public wildlife activities
- Helping to prepare a range of resources for use by school groups and during family events
- Setting up equipment and resources and clearing away on school visit and event days
- Supporting the Centre staff to deliver school visits
- Supporting the Centre staff to deliver events for a range of users such as Nature Tots, Wild Wednesdays, public activities and trails
- Adhering to the risk assessment for the task in hand
- Adherence to the Volunteer Charter, policies, procedures and guidelines
- Undertaking role appropriate training as required
Who would this role suit?
Essential skills/experience:
- A strong desire to inspire people about wildlife and the natural world
- An infectious passion about nature and the natural world
- A willingness to have fun outdoors in all weathers
- Experience of working with children and/or families
- Good communication skills
- Confident in communicating and presenting to others
Desirable skills/experience:
- Experience of working in an outdoor education setting
- Wildlife identification skills
- Safeguarding knowledge and training
- First Aid certificate
