Gainsborough Area Group – Fungi Foray at Kettlethorpe Woods

A report from our successful Fungi Foray in Kettlethorpe Woods on the sunny Sunday morning of the 6th October.

We were very pleased 17 people attended the successful and productive Fungi Foray in Kettlethorpe Woods on the sunny Sunday morning of the 6th October, Fortunately, we had some rain a few days beforehand after a rather dry period, 

We found a good variety ranging from the large, solid boletes (penny bun or cep) that hangs around for weeks to the tiny, delicate snowy inkcap that disintegrates in a day.

Bonnets (Mycena)                 

  • Rosy bonnet
  • Several other small bonnets

Inkcaps (Coprinus)                 

  • Snowy inkcap
  • Pleated inkcap

Toughshanks (Collybia)        

  • Russet toughshank
  • Whitelaced shank
