About the event
Barton Area Group's regular field trips are open to everyone - you don't need to be a member. This time they're heading to North Cave Wetlands, North Cliffe Wood & Drewton. North Cave Wetlands is positively dripping with wildlife, whatever the time of year. Boasting a mixture of shallow and deep-water lakes with wide margins and islands, reedbeds, grassy banks and meadows, hedgerows and wooded fringes, this still-expanding reserve was once part of a huge marsh called Wallingfen. Having been turned over to agriculture and then quarrying, it’s now returning to its former glory – and nature is responding in both numbers and diversity.
North Cliffe Wood on a still spring day – when the sight and scent of the bluebells are at their peak and birdsong carries through the air – is a glorious experience.
Meet at the car park at Ness End, Far Ings National Nature Reserve, for 9am to go together - car sharing is available. This is a full-day activity and is expected to finish around 4pm.
To get to Ness End Farm from Barton-upon-Humber, travel west along Far Ings Road, go past the brown signs for Far Ings Visitor Centre and past the turning for the hotel. The road narrows and after 300 yards Ness End Farm car park is on your right (please note that the postcode for satnav is DN18 5RG, but this will also take you to the main Visitor Centre car park).
