Voluntary Wildlife Watch Leaders
Would you like to help inspire the next generation of ecologists and conservationists? Wildlife Watch is the junior branch of the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust, and is one of the UK’s leading environmental clubs for young environmentalists. Children of primary school age (usually between 5 and 12 years old for most groups) can learn more about wildlife and take part in projects by getting involved with Wildlife Watch groups.
There are currently seven Wildlife Watch groups across Lincolnshire, NE Lincolnshire and North Lincolnshire. Each Watch group is run by at least three Wildlife Watch leaders (or two with one registered helper).
We are looking for volunteers who would like to be Watch leaders or registered helpers to help with our existing groups or to establish new groups in other areas of the county.
Duties:
- Helping to plan and deliver an exciting and inspiring programme of Wildlife Watch meetings for children in your area
- Promoting the activities of the group and encouraging new families to join
- Running safe and enjoyable meetings, ensuring child welfare and safety policies are put into practice
- Promoting Watch membership and liaising regularly with the cluster group leader
As a registered leader, you would have free access to training such as: first aid, child protection and ‘in house’ training on a range of activities and environmental issues.
Skills & Experience:
- You will have an interest and enthusiasm for wildlife and working with children (you don't need to be a 'wildlife expert'!)
- You will need to agree to a DBS check (which will be paid for on your behalf) and provide two references
- You will have strong communication skills, a sense of responsibility, sound judgement, an ability to provide a safe and fun atmosphere and a mature, pragmatic and flexible approach
