Wilder Humber Nursery Volunteer
Wilder Humber brings together sand dune, saltmarsh, seagrass and native oysters, aiming to restore and enhance these vital ecosystems in the largest seascape project in the North Sea.
Our exciting new Sea View Nursery is a fundamental part of this ambitious project. We are looking for volunteers to join us as part of a team developing saltmarsh and sand dune plant propagation techniques and practices.
What the role involves
You will be spending time tending to plants and helping to maintain and develop a growing schedule as well as:
- Routine checks, measurements and detailed recordings
- Organising and updating the seed bank
- Maintaining the nursery site and grounds
- Sharing your experience of volunteering as well as your unique skills, experience and expertise
- Seed collection (training will be provided)
A fascinating opportunity for those with an interest in gardening in particular, but for anybody who wants to make a difference, this role is a great way to mix doing something worthwhile with your love of nature and the outdoors. There will be the chance to gain new skills, meet like-minded people, and be part of something pioneering.
What skills and experience you will need
No previous experience is necessary, just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. We will provide you with all the training and information that you need.
The nursery will need volunteers to perform a wide range of tasks - some may require manual handling or walking on difficult terrain, but others can be done sitting down within our accessible polytunnels. There is something for everyone!
