Wild Weekend - Donna Nook

Donna Nook covers more than 10km of coastline between Grainthorpe Haven in the north and Saltfleet in the south where it borders the Saltfleetby-Theddlethorpe National Nature Reserve.

Known mainly for it's colony of grey seals during the winter months, Donna Nook is also a haven for sea birds, with 47 species of bird breeding regularly on the site.

Far Ings is situated on the south bank of the Humber Estuary, a major east-west flyway for migrating birds.

There's always something to see or hear when looking out over the reedbeds - whether it's the the song of hidden warblers or bearded tits, the eerie boom of a bittern in the reedbeds.

Gibraltar Point is a dynamic stretch of unspoilt coastline running southwards from the edge of Skegness to the mouth of the Wash.

The reserve is a haven for wildlife all year round, with migrant birds stopping to refuel or establish territories.

Snipe Dales is situated between Horncastle and Spilsby and is one of the few semi-natural wet valley systems still surviving in Lincolnshire.

This diverse landscape of woodland, grassland and scrub fretted by streams supports a wide range of birds and other wildlife including butterflies and dragonflies.

Whisby Nature Park is a beautiful landscape near Lincoln, full of wildlife, walks and trails.

Once barren and lifeless, this amazing place now abounds with wildlife including flocks of warblers, nightingales and stunning starling murmurations during the winter months.

Wild Weekend - Willow Tree Fen

Willow Tree Fen is situated between Baston and Spalding and was purchased by the Trust in 2009.

The fenland habitat attracts large numbers of waterfowl and waders, and the reserve is also an important site for the protection of rare and threatened species of wetland flora.

Wild Weekend - Woodhall Spa Airfield

Woodhall Spa Airfield was formerly the home of four brave RAF squadrons, including 617 ‘the Dambusters’ Squadron, but more recently was used as a sand and gravel quarry.

As a nature reserve it is a haven for wildlife as well as a place where visitors can share in the unique and peaceful atmosphere of this former airfield.
